This is a personal impression about the city of Calcutta which is where I was born. On my part, I have tried to visually explore the meaning which I hold about this city, through my lens, the sense which persists strongly within me, existing on its own amidst and despite the erstwhile semiotics pointing towards a certain other direction. What I have tried to present through these photographs is a reflection of my own process of negotiation with this city, its surroundings. Done through those formative sensibilities that are attached with growing up in a city such as Calcutta. Amidst the chaos spinning out of everyday life, it is my quest to discover and explore the emptiness of those moments in time and space where people living in this city find themselves embedded into. I have tried to situate individual personalities in their ephemeral environments where they seem to be in a continuous negotiation with their surroundings, trying to rise above the urban chaos and din.
